Press releases of earthquakes correctly pre-alerted by the SAP in 2020 and 2023 to users subscribed to the SAP Service.

Despite low seismic activity in Italy over the three-year period 2020-2023, for the particular seismic events of some significance that occurred on land (not at sea, because at sea the SAP cannot properly pre-warn) EqForecast issued as many press releases. Below they are available for reading. The correct pre-alert issued to users shows that the system is working well.

I casi documentati sono i seguenti:

  1. 24/09/2020 – Primo test sperimentale interno via Telegram: terremoto M3.4 a Terme Vigliatore (ME); alert ricevuto 26 secondi prima del sisma.
  5. 05/07/2023 – Terremoto M4.0 a Cesarò (ME); notifica 5 ore prima, errore minimo, distanza epicentri: 66 km.
  6. 27/09/2023 – Terremoto M4.2 ai Campi Flegrei; alert ricevuto 1h 30’ prima, errore magnitudo di soli 0.1M, distanza epicentri: 40 km.

The documented cases are as follows:

09/24/2020 – First internal experimental test via Telegram: earthquake M3.4 in Terme Vigliatore (ME) with alert received 26 seconds before the seismic event.

01/23–24/2023 – Two earthquakes M4.9 and M5.6 south of Malta, correctly predicted for both time and magnitude (epicenter at sea not detectable by the ARR system, but accurately predicted by ATR). In this case, as it was not possible to send the geographic alert, the temporal alert for magnitude on the Timeline remained valid (see press release).

03/09/2023 – Seismic events M4.3 and M4.5 in Umbertide (PG) with notification received hours before the event, magnitude error limited to M0.3 and distance between predicted and actual epicenter of only 34 km.

06/28/2023 – Earthquake M3.7 in Poggibonsi (SI) with notification sent the previous evening, magnitude error less than 0.4 and distance between epicenters of 39 km.

07/05/2023 – Earthquake M4.0 in Cesarò (ME) with notification 5 hours before the event, minimal error in prediction and distance between epicenters of 66 km.

09/27/2023 – Earthquake M4.2 in Campi Flegrei with alert received 1 hour and 30 minutes before, magnitude error of only 0.1M and distance between epicenters of 40 km.
